Hold on Julio to miss Haydock

Alan King last night revealed that his highly impressive Hold on Julio will miss the Haydock Grand National Trial this Saturday.
The Aintree favourite will instead run either in the Racing Post Chase at Kempton or wait for the Spinal Injuries Chase at Cheltenham, which was won by King's Bensalem last year.
King explained that Haydock was never really among the plans and that the horse had been entered for the National - the weights for which are declared later today.

Julio has stopped coughing - that prevented him from running in the Skybet Chase at Doncaster - and is working well again.

Hold On Julio is 1000.00 to win the Grand National at Aintree in April while Alfa Beat can be backed at 51.00 and Weird Al at 51.00.

King added that he intended to take a look to see how he has been assessed before making any firm plans for the Aintree contender.
He said: "If we do decide to run him in the National it might be worth heading for Kempton as that would give him a bit more time to prepare for Aintree than if we went to the Cheltenham Festival.
