The New Jersey Devils picked up their fourth straight victory with a 4-3 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Air Canada Centre.
Mark Fayne's shot from the point was going wide until accidently redirected into his own net by Jonas Gustavsson at 1:18 of the extra period, to keep the Devils a point ahead of the Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins in the Atlantic division.
Philly also needed to go to overtime to beat the Jets 5-4 in Winnipeg.
Jaromir Jagr picked up the winner at 4:16 of the OT after Wayne Simmonds had tied proceedings with 10 seconds to go in regulation while Evgeni Malkin and Steve Sullivan powered the Penguins to a 2-0 shutout over the New York Rangers.
Tyler Myers and Thomas Vanek gave the Buffalo Sabres a 2-0 second period advantage over the visiting New York Islanders at the First Niagara Center and Ryan Miller made it stand up with 30 saves despite allowing a Frans Nielsen consolation late in the third.
Down in Tampa Bay the Lightning had just 16 shots all game, but made them count as they took out the Anaheim Ducks 3-2.
Steven Stamkos recorded his 41st and 42nd of the year in the first period and then assisted on Teddy Purcell's 15th of the year in the second, for what would turn out to be the eventual winner.
The Flyers are 601.00 to win the Stanley Cup this year while the Penguins can be backed at 601.00.
